To fully appreciate Acland's fresh take on a provincial style, take a look at the legs. Starting as square oak posts, the legs are not fully turned on a lathe into completely rounded forms.
Instead, some portions are left square with gently carved corners that give the legs a decidedly sculptural shape. The woodworking expertise is also visible in the tabletop edge, chiseled in the middle in what's known as a bird's beak. The table, which accommodates eight, is finished in a rich warm brown that emulates the traditional fuming technique used to darken wood.
